The Blast Furnace-Basic Oxygen Furnace (BF-BOF) route
Electric Arc Furnace route

Continuous improvement of the processes to achieve the best possible material standards and to drive forward the circular economy.

Charcoal Pellets: High pressure extruded, highly compressed biochar pellets as an ideal CO2 neutral/environmentally friendly replacement for coal, coke or antrazite in the steel industry.
Residual material pellets: Extruded pellets of dust, sludge or slag are an efficient and controlled way to return these difficult materials to the smelting process. An environmentally and economically beneficial alternative to landfill and a new opportunity for alternative raw materials.
Combination of residuals and charcoal in a self-reducing, innovative pellet: Another improved efficiency option for reduction when choosing Green Steele extrusion technology.
Refractory materials: Extruded tap hole and ramming materials for a wide range of applications in and around the blast furnace.

Innovative technology for the production of pellets for a sustainable future.

Efficient processing and shaping of residual materials

Our innovative extrusion technology enables us to produce high-quality pellets from a wide range of residual materials, which can be used as fuel or raw materials in various industries. This helps to reduce waste volumes and reuse resources sensibly. The process is not only environmentally friendly, but also extremely efficient. Our technology is versatile as it can be adapted to a wide range of material properties.

Low porosity pellets

Our unique process ensures that almost no air is trapped in the pellets. This increases the density, quality and strength of the pellets to the highest possible level and ensures that the pellets can be handled and processed with less dust and fines generated.

Less binder with higher strength

Reducing binders, especially cement, not only improves the CO2 balance of the pellet, but also maximizes the proportion of raw materials in the pellet composition. Less binder means less slag and therefore less energy consumption in the furnace (higher productivity) and higher yields.

Sustainability meets performance

With our technology, we are setting new standards in pellet production. We offer an environmentally friendly solution that not only reduces the amount of waste, but also delivers a high-quality, high-performance end product.

SUCCESS
STORY
Challenge

Our customer, one of India's leading steel producers, was facing rising costs for iron ore and coke, the primary feedstocks for its blast furnaces.

Solution

The plant had ready access to fines from its DRI process, as well as wet, carbon-rich LD sludge and blast-furnace dust imported from Australia. STEELE provided key process equipment and start-up support to produce approximately 60,000 tons per year of engineered feedstock. Today, the plant produces 100% stiff extruded briquettes.

Result

The homogeneous blend of iron oxide fines and fine carbon particles has resulted in a reduction in coke rates of more than 20%.

The carbon content of the briquettes has reduced the need for imported carbon from Australia for both the mill and the customer's mill, while improving the performance of the sintered strands (stiff extrusion removes the fines that cause problems with sintering).
Benefits
Reduction of CO2 emissions through the use of renewable energies and innovative technologies
This helps to reduce the industry's ecological footprint and supports efforts towards sustainability and environmental protection. Residual materials are converted into secondary raw materials.
Competitiveness is strengthened through modernized production processes, costs are reduced and at the same time a positive contribution is made to climate protection.
It may be possible to take advantage of government funding programs and tax incentives.
